Event Details

We invite you to join us for this very special virtual event featuring Dr. Cathy Tompkins and Dr. Emily Ihara of George Mason University and the Mason Music Memory Initiative.

Research shows that music is successful in soothing and comforting individuals with dementia, as well as reducing agitation and depression.

This is why The Kensington is proud to partner with the Mason Music & Memory Initiative (M3I). The Mason Music & Memory Initiative focuses on various musical interventions to improve the quality of life of persons living with dementia. These interventions use music to access long-held joyful memories and positive emotions. This approach has been shown to reduce the need for pharmacologic interventions.

This presentation will also kick off Music Therapy Thursdays at The Kensington.  Every Thursday beginning in November,  Jessica Channell of Helping Harmony Music Therapy will guide us through music therapy sessions that will will motivate participants to reminisce and help maintain cognitive functioning.
