Kensington Senior Living & World Central Kitchen Bake for Ukraine

Kensington Senior Living recently organized and hosted a fundraising event throughout April to support Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

Thanks to the generous donations from our communities, we were able to raise over $17,000 for those affected by the ongoing crisis.

Kensington Senior Living chose to support Ukrainians with donations to Chef Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen, an organization feeding those in need with nourishing meals.

In return, those who donated received a box of Ukrainian Honey Cookies, lovingly baked by Kensington chefs.

Read on to learn more about our partnership with World Central Kitchen, and how our community donations directly supported their efforts to feed those in need.

Why did Kensington Senior Living partner with World Central Kitchen?

Kensington Senior Living chose to partner with World Central Kitchen because we believe their mission aligns with our own Promise to love and care for the families in our communities as we do our own families.

World Central Kitchen’s mission to feed nourishing meals to those in times of crisis deeply resonated with Kensington Senior Living’s own efforts to serve our residents healthy, fresh foods that have the ability to heal and improve lives.

The Kensington Promise guides every aspect of our care, including our events, partnerships, and fundraising efforts.

Each donation to Kensington Bakes for Ukraine went directly to their on-the-ground efforts to serve nourishing meals to those in need.

How does Kensington Senior Living support the community?

Kensington Senior Living communities have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Foundation, the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, and Hilarity for Charity to support fundraising efforts.

We recently hosted CareCon with HFC to empower and educate caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and we frequently host other educational events to provide support and resources for caregivers.

Our events also aim to help improve the overall health and wellness of residents and their families with lifestyle and self-care tips.

We are grateful to our communities for helping us support those affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Who is World Central Kitchen and what is their mission?

World Central Kitchen was created with the understanding that food is central to life and family all over the world, which Kensington Senior Living communities understand personally.

Founder Jose Andres and his team have served nourishing, hot meals all over the world following humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

He considers food a “plate of hope,” and believes food is the fastest way to rebuild after a disaster.

How does World Central Kitchen help communities rebuild?

Much like our Kensington communities, World Central Kitchen considers the long-term effects of what good nutrition and food education can provide to those who need it.

After an emergency has passed, the World Central Kitchen team makes a long-term commitment to support the places with chronic food system challenges.

Their mission to create resilience mirrors Kensington Senior Living’s efforts to focus on the preventative measures we can take to boost a person’s overall health and wellness.

How did the fundraiser support those in Ukraine?

World Central Kitchen has served more than 16 million meals and delivered 8 million pounds of food to families across Ukraine.

When disaster strikes, its Relief Team urgently heads to the front lines to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. The team has provided millions of fresh meals around the world.

Every single donation to our Kensington Bakes for Ukraine fundraiser went directly to their mission to serve those in need — 100% of proceeds.

Any donation not used during a crisis goes toward World Central Kitchen’s resilience work, which includes access to professional culinary training, job creation, and improved food security for the people they serve.
